Seven Quick Takes

July 17, 2009

Unfortunately, this has been one of those downhill weeks. Monday started off slow and dragging, followed by bad news on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I’m not particularly excited to see what today will bring. It would really be just our luck if we ended up getting a speeding ticket or a huge fine from our last apartment. (I think I’ll be driving HH home from the station tonight…)

On the other hand, it is almost too easy to completely focus on the bad aspects of these past few days and completely miss the good things that have happened. We got a refund from the slipshod job a local repair shop did on our car (we had to get the repair re-done at the dealer for a fabulously higher amount of money). Our baby is doing just fine. And… ugh, ok, bad list is still longer than good list.

I got all sorts of free goodies from the OB when I went in for my appointment. Among them are lollipops that contain vitamin B6 and are supposed to almost instantly relieve morning sickness. I’m trying to make myself sick right now so I can try them (plus, candy, YUM). I also got some very nice products from formula companies along with promises of even more cool free stuff if I tell the delivery nurses I’m going to use their formula. Almost makes one tempted to try. Actually I’m tempted to try the big bottle of formula they gave me– I certainly don’t remember what that stuff is suppose to taste like.

We have taken to giving our dogs forced “manner walks” every evening ever since the older one nearly ran down an old man Monday morning. Well, she didn’t run him down, but she took off at him with her wild barking and scared the living daylights out of him. Enough to make him fall over. Absolutely mortifying to be the owner of one of “those” dogs.

I’ve just started really enjoying the summer. Maybe because out here in the east it only just really warmed up. It was such a nice surprise to go check the mail with wet hair from the shower and not be the slightest bit chilly. I definitely need to plan more summer activities. Last year I remember overhearing some woman at the train station talking about how once the 4th of July passes, she considers summer to be on its way out. That scares me. I am not ready for it to end.

Why does my garbage stink???? I have never had problems with stinky garbage before and I usually empty it way less often than I am now. I just came back from dropping HH off at the commuter rail and the apartment smells hideous. What did I do? There’s nothing in there but a pizza box, shards of glass, and some food wrappings. I always put food scraps down the disposal (haha, as if there are any ever– that husband of mine is like a swarm of locust. He’d eat the plate with a dash of hot sauce if I didn’t stop him). Now I have to haul garbage and the bag is only half full. It’s such a waste.

I forgot to say so yesterday, but Happy Birthday to my dear sister, M!! I miss her so much, she’s just the greatest!

Don't stress — think of the darling BB and the back rub I owe you tonight.
